DENVER, Colo. -- Jerry Wendland, age 69, of Denver passed away on Wednesday (Jan. 11, 2017) at the Cambridge Memorial Hospital in Cambridge, Nebraska. Jerry was born in Oxford, Nebraska on May 1, 1947 to Theodore & Phyllis (Wieland) Wendland.

He grew up in Arapahoe and graduated from Arapahoe High School in 1965. He was the oldest of 5 children. He moved to Denver in 1967. In 1969, Jerry was married to Sheila Monie at the United Methodist Church in Arapahoe. To this union a daughter, Darcy, was born.

He worked for Elcar Fence Co in Denver until 1973 when he went to work for the Colorado Department of Transportation. He retired from CDOT in 2003 after thirty years.

Jerry was an avid fisherman and hunter. Throughout his life he was able to enjoy taking trips fishing throughout the U.S., including Washington, Alaska, Georgia, Hawaii and Florida. He also enjoyed hunting for goose, duck and elk. In his retirement he enjoyed spending time on his land in Nebraska and teaching his granddaughter how to fish.

Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, his father and mother-in-law's, Gordon & Geraldine (Yelken) Monie and brother-in-law James Wymes.

Jerry is survived by his wife Sheila (Monie) Wendland of Denver, CO; daughter Darcy Wendland and granddaughter Bethany Wendland of Thornton, CO. His siblings, Billy (Bonnie) Wendland (Paxton, NE); Darlene (Wendland) Wymes of Brunswick, GA; Wanda (Joel Hank) Pulley (Arapahoe) and Dale Wendland Arapahoe.

No viewing or visitation as cremation was chosen. Memorial services will be Saturday, Jan. 14, 2017, at 2 p.m. at Wenburg Funeral Chapel, 652 Main St. Arapahoe, Nebraska with the Rev. James Moshier, officiating.

Inurnment will be at the Arapahoe Cemetery, Arapahoe, Nebraska.
