Father Gary Brethour of St. Patrick's Catholic Church in McCook blesses the "Bargain Bazaar" thrift store in a special service Thursday morning. Father Brethour said, "In his own life, Christ Jesus showed us the dignity of labor," explaining that Jesus, by working with his own hands, transformed toil from an inherited curse for sin into a source of blessings. Father Brethour read, "If we do our work well, whatever it may be and offer it to God, we purify ourselves, and through the labor of our hands and minds, we build up God's creation." Thrift shop volunteers answered, "Give success to the work of our hands." Father Brethour prayed, "Bless all who use this building, as buyers and sellers. Bless this building with His presence and look kindly on all who enter here." The Bargain Bazaar started in May 1995 in a shop in the 200 block of West First. It moved to new, larger and brightly-lighted quarters in the 200 block of West C in May of 2016.
