Irlee Lewis Stagemeyer

HOLBROOK, Neb. -- Irlee Lewis Stagemeyer, 79, of Holbrook, died Friday (July 15, 2016), at CA Mues Good Samaritan Center in Arapahoe, Neb.

He was born July 10, 1937, to Gustav and Irene (Wendland) Stagemeyer in Gosper County, Neb., on the family farm.

He graduated from Holbrook High School in 1954. He attended the University of Nebraska -- Lincoln and began his teaching career in 1958 as a vocational agriculture instructor at Verdigre High School in Verdigre, Neb. He was invited and participated in an agricultural education tour of the Soviet Communist Bloc Countries and the Soviet Union. He completed his military training at Fort Dix in Burlington, N.J. He resumed his teaching career at Burwell High School in Burwell, Neb.

On July 21, 1963, he married Rosemary Marie Reid at Trinity Lutheran Church in Arapahoe. They moved to Ainsworth, Neb., where they were both employed with the Ainsworth Public School System. In 1967, they moved to the Stagemeyer homestead located in Gosper County to continue their farming and cattle operation and in 1992, he taught part time as an agriculture instructor and FFA advisor at Arapahoe Public Schools in Arapahoe. He also worked part time as a crop insurance adjuster with Farmers Mutual Hail Insurance Company.

He was a member of the Nebraska Simmental Association.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Rosemary; parents, Gustav and Irene Stagemeyer; and brother, Merlin Stagemeyer.

He is survived by children, Merrill Stagemeyer and wife, Sandra of Cambridge, Neb., Brent Stagemeyer and wife, Carla of Page Neb., and daughter Jeree' Holt and husband, Brandon of Kearney, Neb.; sister, Marlene Bachmann and husband, Gerald of Missoula, Mont.; eight grandchildren as well as other family members.

Viewing and visitation is Wednesday, July 20, 2016, from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. at Wenburg Funeral Chapel in Arapahoe and prior to the service at the church.

Funeral services are Thursday, July 21, 2016, 10:30 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Arapahoe with Rev. James Moshier officiating. Interment is at the St. Matthews Cemetery of Arapahoe.

Memorials may be given in his name to Trinity Lutheran Church of Arapahoe or St. Matthew's Lutheran Cemetery Fund.
