OBERLIN, Kan. -- Martin E. May, 90, of Oberlin, died Thursday (Nov. 19, 2015), at Decatur Health Systems in Oberlin.

He was born Dec. 17, 1924, in Decatur County to Ernest H. and Martha (Voelker) May. He grew up on a farm northwest of Oberlin and graduated from Decatur Community High School in 1942. He married Evelyn Reith on April 6, 1947. He served in the U.S. Army.

He lived for 89 years on the family farmstead in the Logan Township of Decatur County and one year at Wheat Ridge Terrace in Oberlin. He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church and Oberlin American Legion Post No. 70 in Oberlin.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ernest and Martha May; daughter-in-law, Candace May; three brothers, Arthur, Elbert and Harlan May; and one sister, Mildred Fortin.

Survivors include his wife, Evelyn May of Oberlin; children, Ernest (Donna) May of Tonganoxie, Marvin May of Oberlin and Janice (Greg) Cundiff of Oberlin; brother-in-law, Jack E. Fortin of Oberlin; six grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

Services are Tuesday, Nov. 24, 2015, 1:30 p.m. at St. John's Lutheran Church with the Rev. Brad Rick officiating. Interment is at the Oberlin Cemetery.

Visitation is today until 8 p.m. at Pauls Funeral Home in Oberlin and Tuesday, Nov. 24, 2015, at the church.
