Connie Jo Discoe/McCook Gazette

The 2015 Red Willow County Fair in McCook, Nebraska, opens Wednesday evening under cloudy, threatening skies that blew themselves out without creating anything more than horrid, muggy humidity. The carnival rides -- especially the screamin' too-fast-and-too-furious "Himalaya" -- attracted those especially brave riders. Others concerned themselves with the more sedate 4-H cat judging, where judge Pam Hamilton and Clover Kid Aspen Kotschwar discussed Aspen's black cat. On the stage at the 105.3 Coyote Country Music Showdown, Taylor Dack of Paxton wowed the crowd and won the 13-18 age division with her version of "Last Name." Taylor is the granddaughter of Vesta and Dean Dack of McCook. The fair continues through Sunday; look for a schedule in the Monday, July 20 edition of the Gazette.
