McCook, Nebraska, seamstress extraordinaire Laverna Ely repairs the bodice of a spangly and sparkly prom dress donated for the second annual "Prom Shop," a limited-time-only specialty dress shop that will offer gently-worn prom dresses for upcoming color day dances and spring proms. For the second year in a row, Prom Shop committee members will accept clean, gently-used prom dresses -- long and short, all sizes and styles, sequined or simple, every color of the rainbow -- to offer for resale in the Prom Shop. None of the dresses will sell for more than $25. All proceeds from the dress sales will go to the Community Chest to support the 13 agencies it serves throughout Southwest Nebraska. Laverna donates her time and talent to steam and, if needed, repair the donated dresses. Dresses can be dropped off at McCook National Bank; or call Lisa Felker at the bank, (308) 345-8737, to arrange to have the dresses picked up. The Prom Shop will be located at 110 West C Street in downtown McCook and open Saturdays, Feb. 14 and Feb. 21, from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m.
