Velda Victoria Coburn Carmichael

REDDING, Calif. -- Velda Victoria Coburn Carmichael left her temporary home on earth Jan. 8, 2015.

Velda was born in Stockville, Nebraska, on Dec. 12, 1917, to Lennie and Lottie Coburn. She lived on a farm north of Indianola, Nebraska, until at the age of 16, she married James Carmichael.

They raised six children. In 1956, they moved to Pomona, California, with four of their children. Velda did odd jobs before managing a drapery store and later worked for a jewelry store as a sales rep. Velda loved jewelry.

In 1988, she moved to Redding, California, where she lived with her daughter, Romona for 24 years. The last two years, she lived at the Marquis Care Center. Her last two weeks were spent at home where she went home to meet her Savior.

Velda loved music and played the piano by ear. She played Christian and ragtime music.

She leaves behind son, Lamoine/Hoagy (Donna) Carmichael of Sun City West, Arizona; daughter, Gloria Walls of Seneca, Missouri; daughter, Romona Black of Redding, California and daughter, Connie Webster of Ontario, California.

Two sons, William and Marvin, preceded her in death. She also leaves behind 14 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and 16 great-great-grandchildren.

A Celebration of Life will be Tuesday, Jan. 20, 2015, at 11 a.m. at Destiny Fellowship, 2570 S. Bonneyview Road in Redding, California.
