U.S. Army Reserve veteran Tim Monzon of McCook, Nebraska, braves frigid temperatures and a bitter north wind during his portrayal Tuesday -- Veterans Day -- of a homeless veteran. Donations, such as this one made by Paul Schneider, will be put into a fund to help McCook-area veterans struggling to find the money for expenses such as travel to VA hospitals, medical needs, utilities, groceries and/or rent. The funds collected in Monzon's veterans awareness project are administered by VFW Post No. 1652 of McCook and Barb Ostrum of the McCook office of Community Action Partnership of Mid-Nebraska. For more information, contact Ostrum at (308) 345-1187. Monzon's portrayal raised $1,170, all of which stays local. "This is awesome," Ostrum said. "This will get us through the winter, I hope."
