Mandy King, left, Kristen Harms and "Pollyanna" model hand-knitted stocking caps that Margaret Trail Nielsen of Lexington, Nebraska, created for the 2014 McCook, Nebraska, "Coat Closet and Winter Clothing Giveaway." Margaret, originally from McCook, has knitted, crocheted and donated 174 caps for this year's Coat Closet. Coat Closet coordinator Barb Ostrum said donations this year are down slightly, and she is in need of all sizes of men's, women's and children's coats, jackets, hats, hoodies, coverall/overalls, mittens and snow boots, and warm winter clothing such as jeans and sweaters. Ostrum said they also need hangers and plastic grocery sacks. Donations will be accepted today until about 6:30 p.m., at the big door on the north side of the auditorium. Coats and clothing will be distributed Wednesday from 1 p.m. until 7 p.m.; Thursday, from 8 a.m. until 7 p.m.; and Friday, from 8 a.m. until noon. The Coat Closet is made possible by the City of McCook, Community Action Partnership of Mid-Nebraska and the Southwest Nebraska community.
