McCook man wants to put "heritage" back in Heritage Days

McCOOK, Neb. -- A McCook man wants to put "heritage" back in McCook's "Heritage Days" celebration.

The community's annual celebration started 44 years ago as "German Heritage Days." Somewhere along the time, organizers dropped the "German" in favor of celebrating every heritage that helped build McCook and Southwest Nebraska.

"Let's put 'heritage' back in Heritage Days" says Tim Monzon of McCook, who wants to celebrate his Mexican heritage by creating a Mexican-themed float for the Heritage Days parade Saturday, Sept. 27.

"McCook is a big melting pot," Monzon says, encouraging others to celebrate their own heritage by also creating specially-themed parade entries.

To enter the parade, contact the McCook Area Chamber of Commerce at (308) 345-3200. The theme is "Grow with Us."
