Boyd Bainter

ELLSWORTH, Kan. -- Boyd Bainter, 91, died Saturday (Aug. 16, 2014), at Ellsworth County Medical Center in Ellsworth.

He was born May 21, 1923, in Jennings, Kansas, to Jack and Emma (Wheelock) Bainter. He attended Jennings Consolidated School and earned a degree in business administration from the University of Kansas.

He served with the U.S. Air Force in World War II. He married Thelma Rice on July 30, 1949, in Jennings. He worked at Farm Bureau Agency and was president of the Reserve Building and Loan Association in Oberlin, Kansas.

He and his wife lived in Oberlin and after retiring, they moved to Green Valley, Arizona, Hutchinson, Kansas and Ellsworth.

He was a member of United Methodist Church, Masonic Lodge, Rotary, and SPEBSQSA (Society for the Preservation and Encouragement of Barber Shop Quartet Singing in America).

He was preceded in death by wife, Thelma (Rice) Bainter; parents, Jack and Emma (Wheelock) Bainter; infant son, Timothy; and two sisters, Ethlyn Tacha and Garrah Gaumer.

Survivors include children, David (Melinda) Bainter of Manhattan and Paula Bainter of Ellsworth.

Services are Thursday, Aug. 21, 2014, 10:30 a.m. at Pauls Funeral Home in Oberlin with the Rev. Ed Woods officiating. Interment is at the Jennings Cemetery.

Visitation is Wednesday, Aug. 20, 2014, from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., and Thursday, Aug. 21, 8 a.m. until time of service.

Memorials may be donated to Jennings United Methodist Church.
