McCOOK, Nebraska -- A car stop Tuesday afternoon on a warrant for shoplifting led to the arrest of two subjects after the subsequent search of a house at the corner of Westridge and J streets in McCook, Nebraska.

Red Willow County Sheriff Gene Mahon said this morning that numerous charges will come from the search. He could not be more specific about the charges until reports from officers are submitted to County Attorney Paul Wood.

Mahon said his officers stopped the car at the driver's residence, at 915 Westridge, on a Lancaster County warrant for theft by shoplifting and failure to appear. Knowing the subject was on probation, probation officers were contacted, and they wanted to conduct a search of the house, the sheriff said.

Mahon said the house and the vehicle were searched, and two adults were arrested, one on the Lancaster County warrant, one on other charges. One has bonded out, the other remains in jail.

Health and Human Services removed children from the home, and family is in possession of the small dog.

The investigation is ongoing, and charges are pending, Mahon said.
